Every 0.55 seconds there’s approximately 136 million search for “physical wellness” on google alone. This is a clear indication we’re interested in understanding and applying physical wellness to our day to day lives.
Physical wellness is defined as the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get the most out of our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress.
Quality of life: Where you’re actively taking steps to eat foods 80% of the week that will improve your energy and provide nutrition to your body. Where you’re participating in an activity you enjoy or at least like, for 20 min a day, 5 days for an intense workout.
I’ve discovered over the years, that the best way to enjoy the rewards of the labor, sacrifice and time invested into our 9-5, is to invest in our physical wellness. How can we have the energy and vibrancy to enjoy the product of our labour, if we’re unwell physically?
We all made promises to ourselves, know someone or heard stories of individuals who promise to start taking better care of their physical being next week, next month, or later. We procrastinate and sometimes that time unfortunately never comes. Never taking time to care and nourish the very body we’re dependant on.
We work hard doing what we love, anywhere from 6-12 hours, 5 days a week, but constantly make excuses of not having time, as little as 20 mins a day to improve our physical wellness.
I understand the struggle, I’ve been there – a chubby kid to unhealthy young adult I went through the teasing, the diets, the cleanses, and fasts. I discovered my solution to physical wellness was not found in chasing diets, but in changing my mindset, and over time I began exchanging foods that drained me of energy to what enhanced my energy, and connected to actives I loved, like strength training, running, walking, hiking, and HITT.
Experiencing the benefits that comes from investing into physical wellness, and it’s been worth it. One way to find out much do you really love and care about yourself is to take a look at what you’re presently doing to invest in your physical wellness. How is that working for you? Are you happy or is there more you can do?
Reminders of why we should pursue physical wellness:
- Increases the longevity of your life so you can enjoy the life you’re working hard to maintain
- Improves your mood
- Helps you manage stress and not the other way around
- Provides you with more energy to be more productive in life
- Performance and creativity at work improves
- Increase your sex drive
- Prolong your independence as you age
How we pursue physical wellness is a personal quest that fits our individual lifestyle. We can both share different things we do to achieve the same goal – to be physically well.
Physical wellness is not about
- Our dress or pant size
- Counting calories or managing our daily quota of points.
- How our muscle definition or how chiseled we look, or
- How low our body fat measurement is
How do you know when physical wellness is part of your life? When nourishing your body with food that provides energy, and participating in activities that helps to enhance your fitness level, is part of your life at least 80% of the time.
Why not begin this week with a commitment to take action on improving your physical wellness so you can start enjoying the benefits that comes from a loving investment? I know you believe you are worth it, so why not prove you deserve it and do it?
